Natalie Janssen

Natalie Janssen, a specialist in the performance of 20th and 21st century music, has had songs and song cycles written for her by acclaimed composers including Robert D. Penn, Ludek Drizhal, and Steven Gates.  In 2004, Ms. Janssen gave her Weill Recital/Carnegie Hall debut, premiering “Hurry,” a chamber piece written for her by New York composer Lisa Bielawa, as part of a concert of new works sponsored by Dawn Upshaw and John Harbison.  In 2008, Ms. Janssen’s debut songwriting CD, "Split," was released to critical acclaim.  She currently resides in Los Angeles where she performs regularly with numerous musical groups including the Chamber Music Consortium, and the Turner Pops Orchestra alongside Royce Jones (Steely Dan).  Other recent performance highlights include Schoenberg’s “Pierrot Lunaire” with The L.A. Sound Circle, Harbison's “Between Two Worlds”  for SongFest, Costantinidis’s “Twenty Songs of the Greek People” for the Art & Hellenism festival in Los
Angeles, the West Coast Premiere of Eugene O’Brien’s “In the Country of Last Things” with USC’s Contemporary Music Ensemble, and Lauridsen's “O Magnum Mysterium” (accompanied by Lauridsen) at a Phi Kappa Phi Ceremony honoring the composer. Ms. Janssen holds a Master’s Degree from USC in Vocal Music, as well as a B.A. in Communications and a B.M. in Vocal Music from the University of Denver. She currently owns and operates her own vocal coaching studio, NJVI, that specializes in body mechanics for all vocalists and the diverse needs of singer-songwriters.
